The Old World - Warriors & Heroes - Complete Online Rule Book

Brewing
Little in the Old World brings a smile to the face of a weary traveler than a good brew. And few in the Old World take brewing more seriously than the Dwarfs. Indeed it could be stated that brewmasters are among the highest regarded of all Dwarfs.
However, they are not alone in their love of a good drink. Many Manlings have brought the brewing of ale to the level of an art. Even the more refined elves have their selections of excellent wines and ales alike.
So, this skill is worth investing in for an adventurer. To this end, let’s take a look at the wide variety of available brews, how they are made, and the skills required.
First things first, different races have access to different knowledge when it comes to brewing. Halflings and humans tend to share a lot of knowledge and brewing skills. Dwarfs carefully guard their brewing secrets in their deep cavern homes, and the elves are equally secretive about their skills.
This means that recipes are locked to specific races. It’s also important to note that some Dwarf ales are undrinkable for humans and elves due to their harsh choices of ingredients. The Dwarfs taste for iron shavings being one possible reason. The extreme levels of alcohol are the second.
Each recipe will mark whether the ale is open to all or limited (Dwarf Only).

Brewing a recipe requires a couple of items and ingredients. You will require a Brewing Barrel, Brewing cauldron, Yeast, and the correct Brewing Base. With those items you can begin the brewing process.
To brew roll a D20 against your recipe brewing difficulty. Meeting or exceeding your recipe goal will allow you brew the selected recipe. This will result in one barrel (100 Drink) being added to your inventory. Failure to meet your recipe goal can have other results. A critical fail (Nat 1) will result in a loss of all ingredients, and nothing will be produced. Rolling less than half of the target number results in cheap brew worth 25% the base cost of the brew. This will be a generic brew with no brew name attached. Rolling greater than half the target number but below the target number results in an average generic brew worth 50% of the base cost of the brew. Rolling above the target number will result in a fine brew. This will add the (fine) marker to the brew and increase its value to 125% of the base value. In the case of recipes that have Nat 20 requirements, players must have modifiers to exceed the target number.

If in a shop the PC will have to pay the recipe price listed to purchase the recipe.
It is also critical that recipes should be tied to the correct regions of the world. So when in empire lands, drop Manling recipes, in Dwarf mountains or hold drop Dwarf recipes, etc... Recipes will also be a chance item drop while traveling.
