The Old World - Warriors & Heroes - Complete Online Rule Book

General Store & Loot Tables

Everyone needs access to basic items. Whether they are new adventures or seasoned explorers, they will require items like weapons, supplies, or simple items for day-to-day needs. While the finest items come about in the form of loot drops, basic versions of these items are always available. Of course, the GM is always welcome to limit the availability of items based on narrative designs. Players will have 100 GC to begin equipping themselves at level 1. They will start with a bedroll, clothing, and 1 weapon item for free. They may purchase whatever items they wish from the basic equipment store tables.

Many items can be used to craft unique weapons, jewelry, armor, or repair broken items. These are available under the crafting items table.

Players can access weapons and armor allowing them to build unique classes. There are no set careers or class systems in Warriors & Heroes. Players have the freedom to build the way they wish. Want a tank? Buy lots of armor and focus on strength and stamina. Want a wizard? Build a character with a high spirit and an attuned staff.

This freedom allows players to create unique character designs without imposed limitations that force player choices. Items from the general store can aid a player in designing the character to use weapons and equipment that fits their preferred play style.
1 Gold Crown (GC) = 20 Shillings (S) = 100 Pennies (p)
However, new players having a limit on their funds means they need to carefully consider any early equipment choices. Among the items available to players are potions and poultices. These can aid wounded players in battle and be used as additional weapons against the more dangerous of foes.

Never underestimate the value of the more mundane items either. Many travelers have been saved by a bit of old rope, a lantern in a dark place, or even extra supplies to survive an unexpectedly long journey. These items are usually relatively affordable and are just as necessary to players as a good sword and decent armor.

Shopping
When looking to shop in the Old World certain limitations apply. Different size villages towns and cities will have different limits. Every store shop table has a stock column. These are the suggested limits on various goods available at any store. Not every town will have every store. Some places may not even have anything beyond a general goods merchant. By comparison, large cities may have multiple stores with the same goods.
Unique items will be available in stores. When a party enters a weapon or armor shop, they will draw a random loot item and can purchase it. They will draw until they receive a face card (Jack+), then roll its loot table. The storekeeper will roll the value based on the loot table. The item may then be purchased for that value by the players. Rune stores and Jewelry stores will also use this mechanic. However, in these stores, the party draws until it receives an Ace or higher. These actions will only be useable once in each store. The entire party must share the opportunity. If the players pass on such a purchase the item will remain available until they leave the town or city. If they leave, the item disappears forever. They will be given a new opportunity the next time they enter the town or city. (Minimum 7 days) Merchants will have a standard limit on the amount of their money. Most merchants will carry 1000g. Poor merchants will carry 300g, while rich city merchants can carry as much as 10,000g. This means that players will need to consider the value of their items before trying to simply sell them anywhere. In addition, certain shops will have no interest in buying certain items. The GM will declare the carry limit of the merchant before the players shop, so they are aware of their selling limit. Players can choose to trade goods instead of buying if the shop has valuables equal to the value of the items being sold.
