Land, Home & Misc. Ownership

Houses & Land

While the ownership of land is rather straightforward, the cost of housing is more complicated. With every  piece of land or house that a player owns there is a base cost. However, there may also be upkeep needed to be paid monthly.

These fees include the pay for workers, usually 30 GC a month, the property tax, or any other required incidentals. The GM should try to keep track of time so as to bill the players regularly for these costs. For now though let’s look at base costs for housing. Buying land with no house will range widely on the region, but buying house includes the land it is on.

Housing Costs

These costs are of course only suggestions. The values can vary depending on location and other factors.

If the players wish to build a house or castle on open land, the time to build such structures should be considered. Castles can take a long time to complete and houses easily months. This is yet another reason to keep good records for any long term sessions.

Other means of travel

Every adventurer eventually needs to quicken their pace or carry more with them. This can mean needing a boat, cart, or carriage. The chart will list average values for these commodities.

Housing Costs

Vehicle costs do not include the required animals. Horses or oxen must be purchased separately. While in towns players can stable their animals for a fee. Most commonly this will be 5-7 Shillings per animal. However, in larger cities, the price can rise quickly.

Always aim to remember all the ins and outs of travel as they add a lot of flavor to encounters. Haggling with the town’s folk over the cost of a boat or passage to another town can make for interesting fodder in the story.
